The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Programme

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is TSM’s FLAGSHIP Management Programme. It has been benchmarked against the top three IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta) and XLRI Jamshedpur and as such, in terms of design and inputs, is comparable to the best management programmes in the country.

Students graduating from TSM’s Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Programme will be awarded and AICTE recognized Diploma, which will be globally accepted by industry and academia.

TSM PGDM programme has been designed to transform young aspirants into role-ready professionals. The course seeks to meet the changing expectations of the corporate world as they continuously reposition themselves to the dynamics of a globally connected environment. The emphasis is to help the PGDM participants develop broader managerial and leadership attributes beyond functional knowledge. This includes developing a robust value system, strong analytical, quantitative, and application skills, effective communications, holistic business perspective, adaptability and interpersonal skills. The PGDM curriculum and pedagogy have been carefully structured to achieve this intent.

TSM PGDM programme is generally management programme with possibilities for specialization along functional lines. The programme is spread over 6 trimesters (terms), each of about 12 weeks duration, over two years. Three streams of learning viz. the academic, leadership and practice school will be imparted and integrated during each term. The academic courses offered during the first year include core courses in functional areas such as Marketing, Finance, Organizational Behaviour and in Foundation disciplines such as Economics and Statistical tools. PGDM second year courses consist predominantly of electives in different functional and general management areas. The first year curriculum is designed not only to equip the PGDM participants with the required analytical tools and including handling general management but also to provide the base for the more specialized courses of the second year. The leadership stream includes, specialized courses on effective communication skills, assignments in industry, thinking skills, ethics and values, integrative skills etc.

Another key differentiator of the TSM PGDM programme is the practice school stream involving experiential learning through continuous engagement with the industry, along with the academic and leadership streams. This is sought to be achieved through, field immersion projects, guest lectures by senior management professionals and a summer internship of 12 weeks’ duration at the end of the first year. It is also envisaged to offer, as part of the course, an eight-day Rural Immersion Programme to expose the students to the leadership challenges of organizing and achieving inclusive, sustainable growth. These initiatives will help the PGDM participants to evolve into well-rounded, role-ready professionals with a good appreciation of the real world issues.

The students are also given rigorous leadership training, crisis management and team building exercises in a leadership camp for three days run by professional who have several years of experience.

Programme Details

I Year

As indicated, the first year seeks to build a solid foundation through a rigorous set of core courses under the academic stream. This covers all major functional areas such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Human Resources Management and disciplines such as Economics and Organizational Behaviour. A board perspective of the industrial environment will also be presented to prepare participants for advanced and more specialized courses in the second year. And in the leadership stream, courses on effective oral and written communication and presentation skills, thinking skills, ethics and values, personal conduct, etc. are being offered.

While scheduling the various courses in the three trimesters, care is being taken to balance academic logic and the learning difficulties of the participants.

As part of the practice stream, industry visits and field immersion projects are proposed so as to offer the participants first-hand exposure to actual work environment and real world problem solving. At the end of the first year, participants will be required to undergo internship in an organization, working on a project related to any functional or other area identified. The objective is to allow participants to gain useful insights into the actual working of an organization, its structure, systems and processes and also to give them an opportunity to use the tools and techniques learned in solving real world problem. The internship will also aid in more informed choice of II year electives by the participants, besides helping them in their initial career choice/ role preference.

II Year

TSM endeavours to offer a bouquet of electives in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Operations and Human Resources Management. The elective courses focus on the applications of tools and techniques in a variety of managerial situations and seek to offer sharper insights and broader perspectives in the areas of specialization.

TSM PGDM Programme, as indicated, is divided into 6 trimesters over 2 years, with a summer internship at the end of the first year. TSM seeks to constantly review the design, content and delivery of various courses for their continued business environment and management practices. There is a fair emphasis on project work and case studies as part of the regular courses at the school. While working on projects sponsored by organizations, students get the opportunity to interact with practicing managers and gain insights into real-world problems.


As mentioned, the first year package consists to the required core courses in both the academic and leadership streams. Besides a few perspective-building core courses, the second year curriculum mostly consists of electives. The participants will have the opportunity to choose from a bouquet of elective courses based on their career preference and /or professional interests.

It is, however, strongly recommended that participants opt for electives in more than one area of specialization in order to develop a broader view of business.

TSM reviews both the course offerings and the course designs on an on-going basis to make sure that the curriculum remains both contemporary and vibrant. And while it would be the endeavour of TSM to offer a number of electives across various streams, actual offering in any trimester would depend on a minimum viable batch-size, availability of the relevant resource person, etc.


While using multiple pedagogical tools such as the case method, faculty-led discussions, group projects and presentations, Simulation Games etc., emphasis will be on participant-centred learning to maximize learning effectiveness. The goal is to equip students with application orientation and problem solving skills with simultaneous emphasis on group efforts. The practice stream mentioned earlier is built to achieve this.

Evaluation System

The evaluation scheme will be based on class preparation and participation, quizzes and examinations, project submissions and presentations as are appropriate for the various courses. Students will receive Relative Grading for each course which is followed by premier institutions like IIM’s, XLRI, MDI Gurgaon and other leading business schools across the globe.

Summer Internship Project

Every PGDM participant is required to undertake internship with an organization for a period of 12 weeks at the end of the 3rd term. The internship would typically involve a live project identified by the organization in consultation with a faculty guide and the PGDM programme administration. While TSM will endeavour to identify suitable organizations and projects for this purpose, participants are equally encouraged to explore potential opportunities.

On-campus Residence

In order to facilitate group efforts, regular group interactions as well as library-referenced study, the participants are required to stay in the campus hostels.

Career Prospects of TSM PGDM Graduates

As TSM’s Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), students graduating from TSM’s PGDM programme can apply for any all Central /State Government and PSU jobs which are open to MBAs.

They can also apply for doctoral programmes in leading B-Schools like, Harvard, Kellog, IIMs, IITs etc., as well as to Indian Universities.

It may also be noted that Indian companies in the private sector DO NOT make any distinction between PGDM diploma holders from AICTE approved B-Schools and MBAs, either for entry level positions of for subsequent promotions.
