The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme

TSM MBA Programme is a general Management Programme, with opportunity for functional specialization, TSM has set a quality policy that emphasizes on developing young Management Graduates who, besides meeting the immediate needs and expectations of the industry, would also evolve into empowered individuals with an urge for constant and continuous learning and bias for action. The Programme is spread over 6 trimesters equally spread over the 2 years, with each trimester of approximately 12 weeks duration.

Graduating students will be awarded a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Madurai Kamaraj University which is approved by AICTE and received accreditation from NBA.

TSM Model

TSM MBA starts with an ice-breaking “Preparatory Course” of about 10 days to prepare students with varied academic backgrounds for a common learning platform. The preparatory course includes “soft skills” such as communication, problem-solving, and behavioral skills, and language/communication modules depending on identified needs of the MBA programme participants.

The TSM approach increasingly emphasizes on participant-cantered learning as opposed to faculty-driven learning. The pedagogy accordingly includes interactive learning through case studies, group discussions, projects, seminars and business games, besides faculty lectures and presentations. On-going interactions with practicing managers through guest lectures, focused seminars and workshops, industrial visits and field projects are built in to the curriculum.

Amongst the key factors differentiating TSM MBA programme are emphasis on value-based management and conscious efforts at inculcating a sense of broader social commitment amongst out students. TSM’s Curriculum design and course delivery emphasizes the importance of factoring ethical choices and long-tem sustainability as key variables in the managerial decision process.

MBA Programme Details

I Year

The first year seeks to build the foundation through a rigorous set of core courses on all major functions such as Marketing, Finance, Operations, Systems and Human Resources Management and disciplines such as Economics and Organizational Behaviour. A broad perspective of the industrial environment is presented and a sound foundation is laid for advanced and more specialized learning in the second year. The scheduling of various courses through the three trimesters is done balancing academic logic and the learning difficulties from the student perspective.

It is proposed to offer English language and “soft-skills” development courses as additional inputs through the first year with view to strengthen their overall profiles. Spoken Hindi is offered as a credit course in the first three trimesters to increase the confidence of the students and the scope of placements in their careers.

At the end of the first year, students are required to undergo internship of 8-10 weeks duration in an organization working on a project relating to any functional area. The objective is to help students gain insights into actual working of an organization, its structure, systems and processes and apply some of the tools and techniques learned in solving real world problems in an organizational setting. This also helps in more informed choice of electives by the students in the second year.

II Year

TSM endeavours to offer a bouquet of electives in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Operations, Systems, Human Resources Management and General Management based on the inputs given by the corporate and the academic experts. The elective courses focus on applications of tools and techniques in a variety of managerial situations and seek to offer sharper insights and broader perspectives in the areas of specialization. This need based electives catering to the demands of the job market helps in better positioning of the students during the campus placements.

Structure of Programme

The overall structure of the MBA Programme is:

  • Orientation Programme (prior to the beginning of Trimester I)
  • Trimesters 1 to 6
  • Summer Internship project

The curriculum for the MBA degree programme consists of core courses in the first year and a number of electives in the second year.


A student shall opt of fifteen courses from the elective stream across three Trimesters during the Second Year of the programme. The Electives offered will have credit points ranging between two and three.

Summer Internship / Project

Each student will undertake a Summer Internship/ Project for 8 to 10 weeks, during the summer vacation preceding the fourth trimester, during which he/she will be attached to a company. The summer Internship/Project carries four credit points.

Credit Assignment

Each course is normally assigned a certain number of credits. For the award of the degree, the candidate must have successfully completed a minimum of 128 credits across the prescribed courses of study as approved by the board.

Minimum Credits

For the award of the degree, the candidate must have successfully completed a minimum of 129 credits across the prescribed courses of study as approved by the Board.

On Campus Residence

In order to facilitate group efforts, regular group interactions as well as library-based study, MBA participants are required to stay in the campus hostels.
