About the Doctoral Program

Thiagarajar School of Management offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Management for candidates interested in careers in teaching, research, consulting and industry. The programme is offered through the TSM Research Centre and is affiliated with Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Candidates may pursue the programme in either Full-Time or Part-Time mode. Scholars receive continuous guidance from approved research supervisors and access to TSM's academic and research resources.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the PhD Programme should:

  • Hold a Postgraduate Degree with First Class in Management or a related subject.
  • Meet the eligibility requirements prescribed by Alagappa University.
  • Fulfil the applicable PhD entrance examination requirements.
  • Submit valid proof of the qualifying entrance examination, wherever required.

Candidates are advised to refer to the latest Alagappa University PhD Regulations before applying.

Entrance Examination
  • Candidates must qualify in the Alagappa University Pre-Registration PhD Programme Entrance Examination.
  • Candidates who have qualified in UGC-NET, UGC-NET–JRF, SET/SLET or GATE in the relevant discipline may be exempted from the entrance examination, subject to the prevailing University regulations.

Program Structure

The PhD Programme is offered in Full-Time and Part-Time mode. After admission, each scholar will be assigned an approved research supervisor. The supervisor will be allotted based on the scholar's proposed research area, the supervisor's expertise and the availability of supervision. Every scholar must work continuously under the guidance of the assigned supervisor. Scholars must also complete the required coursework and follow the research progress requirements prescribed by Alagappa University.

Coursework Details

Every provisionally registered PhD scholar must complete the prescribed coursework during the first year of the programme. The coursework will be decided according to the scholar's research area and the latest regulations of Alagappa University. Scholars must successfully complete the coursework before proceeding to the next stage of their doctoral research.
